Any form of art is meant to tell a story. Amid the thousands of avenues that grab the audience’s attention, perhaps there is no equal to the grace, fluidity and beauty that Classical Dance presents. If there is a compelling story to be told, there is no art form that can say it with such conviction and beauty as classical dance can.
The use of the technique to be able to tell novel stories that enthral the audience is the movement spearheaded by Savitha Sastry and her team. By means of this lecture demonstration, Savitha Sastry takes the audience through the journey of a dancer transforming into an artiste.
Savitha Sastry is among the most prominent names in the world of Bharatanatyam, ably trained by Guru Mahalingam Pillai, Padmabhushan VP Dhananjayan, Shanta Dhananjayan, Padmashree Adyar K. Laxman and Smt. Kalanidhi Narayan. Her lavishly mounted productions such as ‘Soul Cages’,
‘Yudh’, ‘The Prophet’ and ‘Chains’ have played across the world and have earned her the affectionate epithet of ‘Dancing Storyteller’ by the audience and the media. Her innovations have been described as ‘path breaking’ by critics. Savitha’s performances have featured at highly prestigious venues across India, China, the Middle East, Australia, Africa, South East Asia, Europe, Canada, and the United States. Chains is a production by Red creatives Singapore, Aru Sri Art Theatre Sri Lanka and Sai Arts India.
