DIG Bodhi Liyanage: A much-loved police officer and sports promoter

Sunday, August 18 marked DIG B.M. Bodhi Liyanage’s second death anniversary. He was a good-hearted sportsman and promoter of sports. A religious ceremony will be held today in Kandy with an alms-giving arranged by the family at the Katugastota residence .
An old boy of Mahinda College in Galle where he took part in sports such as hockey, football and rugby at the university and after coming to Kandy became a sports promoter where he gave a big hand to the police and the people of Kandy. As a promoter his best days were spent with football, later becoming the President of the Sri Lanka Football through the Kandy league and he was the first to hold this position from the hill capital. Under his presidency, the Kandy League won the first ever inter league tournament by beating the Police. His main aim was to promote football in Kandy to the top and he did it. He also gave a big hand for volleyball, lawn tennis, cricket, cycling and boxing. It was during his presidency that the Kandy Youth CC, took up rugby and played in the inter-club “A” division.   
This great sportsman and promoter of sports left this world on August 18, 2017. DIG Bodhi Liyanage will be remembered as  one of Kandy’s much loved police officers and sports promoters.
