The Permanent High Court Trial-at-Bar yesterday decided to extend the time period granted to former Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa to travel overseas for medical treatment until July 24 and accordingly, the Judge bench decided to move the case to July 26.

The order was given after considering the request made by the lawyer who appeared on behalf of Mr. Rajapaksa that the latter was informed by the doctors to rest for six months following a bypass surgery.

He was earlier allowed by the Special High Court to travel to Singapore between May 15 and May 19 to obtain medical treatment.

Seven individuals including Mr. Rajapaksa, were indicted by the Attorney General for misappropriating Rs.48 million of funds belonging to the Land Reclamation and Development Authority in building the D.A. Rajapaksa memorial and museum at Weeraketiya in Medamulana.

The case was taken up before the Special High Court Judges Sampath Abeykoon, Sampath Wijeratne and Champa Janaki Rajaratne yesterday.
