The CID yesterday recovered 369 gelignite sticks, 1, 500 detonators, 475 no’s T56 live ammunition, 30 swords and several other types of explosive material at Ollikulam in Kattankudy following information obtained from one of the suspects of the Easter Sunday attacks arrested in Jeddah recently, Police Spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekera said.
He said Hayathu Mohamed Ahamed Milhan who was among the five suspects arrested in Jeddah is currently being questioned after being detained by the CID in connection with the Easter Sunday attacks.
The spokesman said the suspect was taken by the CID to the Ollikulam area yesterday to help them identify the area in which the explosives and ammunition had been hidden.
Eight litres of gelignite liquid, a 210 foot detonating cord, 11 anti-missile bullets and several rounds of ammunition were also recovered by the CID.
Five terrorist suspects including Mohamed Milhan, who were arrested in Saudi Arabia in connection with the Easter Sunday attacks and were in Saudi Police custody, were brought back to Sri Lanka by the CID on June 15.
Accordingly, explosives material was found buried stored inside PVCs at several locations. Eight litres of gelignite liquid and a stock of detonating cord were also recovered by the CID.
