One of the leading global watch brands, Rolex, has created a special exhibition celebrating the new Oyster Perpetual Day-Date 40, which is on display in Sri Lanka exclusively at Chatham Luxury from September 21 to 28.

Since it was launched in 1956, the Day-Date represented the pinnacle of watchmaking at the time, with, for example, the calendar function that indicated the day of the week spelled out in full in a window on the dial in addition to the date. The new generation was unveiled in 2015.

“Founded by Hans Wilsdorf in 1905, the brand pioneered the development of the wristwatch and is at the origin of numerous major watchmaking innovations. Over the years Rolex has registered over 400 patents in the course of its history,” Rolex Brand Manager Yves Meylan said.
The Swiss watchmaker is also actively involved in supporting the arts, sports, exploration, the spirit of enterprise and the environment through a broad palette of sponsoring activities, as well as philanthropic programmes. Chatham Luxury, Sri Lanka’s first luxury multi-brand watch store, is the authorized retailer for a select group of the world’s finest wristwatches. It is inviting the visitors to the exhibition to discover the history and technology behind the Day-Date. Its flagship store is located at Galle Face Court in Colombo.

“It is presented on five panels whose configuration is inspired by the model’s iconic President Bracelet. In addition to 3D, interactive videos, archive photographs and an exploded view of a movement, several of the new collection’s models will be on display,” Meylan added.

The latest Day-Date features a modernized design with a 40 mm case and a new- generation mechanical movement, calibre 3255, which sets a new standard for chronometric performance. It redefines the significance of Superlative Chronometer, established by Rolex in
the late 1950s. Calibre 3255 is a powerful example of the most advanced watchmaking technology. Backed by 14 patents, this innovative movement offers fundamental gains in terms of precision, power reserve, resistance to shocks and magnetism, ease of use and reliability. The new Day-Date is available exclusively in 950 platinum or in 18 ct yellow, white or Everose gold, with a variety of elaborate new dials, veritable signatures of its renewal.
