Chatting with my buddy, of the same vintage, a couple of days ago, our conversation segued into the phases our little Colombo had gone through over the years. Every so often we see a trend and all we can hear is the hoi polloi of Colombo talking about it and then suddenly it is all forgotten with the onset of a new phase. Then the same hoi polloi of Colombo will begin talking about this new phase.
Recalling the phases we have gone through, we were reminded of the owning of a beach property phase; buying apartments for investments phase; at one time it was all about food phase with cupcakes leading; followed by the opening of restaurants, cafes and bars phase and the Airbnb phase. Also, everybody wanting to be an event coordinator phase; trailed by the critique of any subject under the sun phase; the magazine phase; then the phase of opening of dress boutiques or copying other people’s lifestyle stores. The list was infinite.
Some of these phases have either ended in disaster or failed big time or put people into deep financial crunches. Yet, the show must go on, whatever the crisis may be. Nobody wants to admit their failures since they will be talked about. So, many are keeping up appearances with gritted teeth and heavy hearts. It is quite an interesting stage to watch.
