Washington (dpa) - The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) on Monday said it will take more time than previously expected for Boeing to provide a software fix for its grounded 737 MAX jets.
“The FAA expects to receive Boeing’s final package of its software enhancement over the coming weeks for FAA approval,” the agency said in a statement.
The statement said that after the software is submitted, the FAA will review it for safety, adding that the governmental body will not approve the software until it is satisfied that it is safe.
Multiple aviation authorities grounded Boeing 737 MAX 8 and MAX 9 aircraft after the crash of an Ethiopian Airlines flight on March 10 which killed 157 people.
The same Boeing model, the latest version of the US manufacturer’s narrow-body workhorse, was involved in a Lion Air plane crash in Indonesia in October that killed 189 people.
