The Federation of Information Technology Industry, Sri Lanka (FITIS) successfully concluded Tech-Forum 2015 on Big Data recently at The Kingsbury in Colombo with the participation of more than100 CIOs, CTOs and ICT experts.
As part of FITIS Software Chapter, a four-pillar strategy for the development of the ICT industry and its members, namely business development, capacity creation, policy decisions and training and development has been initiated. Tech-Forum is an event that paves the way for the industry to stay abreast of leading technologies and concepts in the rapidly changing ICT sphere.
FITIS Software Chapter has been successfully organising its annual Tech-Forum during the past few years. This is an event which ICT professionals look forward to every year due to its timely relevance and the panel of eminent speakers, who make topical presentations at this key forum. This time Tech-Forum focused on the area of big data, which is a blanket term for any collection of data sets so large and complex that it becomes difficult to process using on-hand database management tools or traditional data processing applications.
Globally, technology firms today lead as the top-most valued companies and brands in the world. The focus on big data this year was because FITIS felt this concept of mining enormous amounts of data to make what is called ‘statistical predictions’ would make technology firms even more indispensable to every other industry be it agriculture, healthcare or sports.
The following eminent speakers and panellists addressed the audience at the Tech-Forum 2015 on relevant areas of big data:  Muhunthan Canagey, CEO, ICTA,  keynote speaker, Rohan Jayaweera, COO, Microimage Mobile Media, Venugopal Krishna, IT Consultant, India, Prinshu Verma, IT Consultant, India, Dr. Tariq Marikar, Director, Etel, Fayaz Huddah, Programme Head, ICTA, Shanta R. Yapa, Vice President, Epic Technology Group, Dinesh Priyankara, Senior Architect Specialist, Virtusa and Wellington Perera, DPE Director, Microsoft Sri Lanka.
