Microsoft together with Sarvodaya-Fusion broadened its computer science project to Katana, Anuradhapura, Tissamaharama and Monaragala over the last two month.
The project initiated to educate 5,000 youth from rural areas commenced in Kurunegala on the 17th September, and has helped bridge the gap for youth to have local and international career opportunities.
The need for students to be proficient in IT skills is ever increasing. If we are to keep up with the digital transformation taking place the world over, it is imperative that our youth are equipped with the knowledge of how to utilize ICT in day-to-day tasks, learn coding skills and are up to date with developments in computer science. Hence, it is important to take Computer Science programs to more areas in the country, and expose the youth to skills and knowledge that can truly make a difference in their lives and their level of employability. It is heartening to see more female participation in the programs being conducted at present, and both Microsoft and Sarvodaya-Fusion hope that this trend will continue as they take the programme to other parts of the island, including Ratnapura, Kandy, Badulla and Jaffna.
