The latest data from the everjobs.lk career report underscores that, Sri Lanka’s job market continues to improve, with IT & software, banking & financial services, apparel, education, telecom and health care sectors providing more job opportunities in 2015.
The recent edition of the career data comes as a bi-annual report, assembled by monitoring the traffic on everjobs.lk. After starting with market predictions, the team used the website analytics to refine the findings into a usable report.
“2015 had a strong close in active job listings as December data shows a pickup in hiring, and this might be evidence that hiring is hitting its stride. The number of openings hit an all-time high in July/August. While that sounds good, it also highlighted some of the challenges facing the labor market. There’s an evidence of a ‘skills gap’ between what job-seekers had to offer and what employers need,” said everjobs Sri Lanka Country Manager Niels van Klooster.
“Taking the number of applications received in the past 06 months, job-seekers are feeling confident enough to look for better prospects, a good sign about the health of the job market. More importantly, increased confidence may also signal workers are more willing to demand higher wages. That will help boost economic growth, though it may squeeze some corporate margins,” he added.
“With the new year comes renewed interest in changing jobs. If you want to move into a career poised for growth or one that is more stable, consider this first. While it may be tempting to drastically change careers, it may make more sense to switch companies within your current industry.” read a testimonial from a Career coach.  “You’ll be able to leverage your knowledge of systems, processes and customer behaviors within your field. Often, a change in company culture and management is enough to reignite your enthusiasm for the work you do. If it has been a while since you last looked, you
may want to brush up on some job-search skills.”
