The Navy said its COVID-19 cluster had ended with the last three infected sailors having recovered from the disease and discharged from hospital yesterday.
Navy Spokesman Captain Indika De Silva said the three sailors would undergo a 14-day period of self-quarantine, adhering to health guidelines.
Nearly 906 navy personnel had contracted the disease creating a massive cluster and were treated at the Navy General Hospital, the Welikanda Hospital, the IDH, Minuwangoda Hospital, Theldeniya Hospital, Homagama Hospital and the Iranawila Hospital.
“The cluster hit zero yesterday, with no more naval personnel undergoing treatment,” the spokesman said and added that 15,598 PCR tests had been carried out on navy personnel while random PCR tests were still being carried out at naval premises.
The first to be infected was a navy officer attached to the Welisara Navy Camp who was tested positive for the virus on April 22 and it resulted in the sailors at theWelisara Camp being quarantined.
