The closing time for voting at the presidential election has been extended from 4.00 pm to 5.00 pm considering the length of the ballot paper, Election Commissioner General Saman Sri Ratnayake said.

He said this was communicated to political party representatives during the meeting held with them at the EC office this morning.

“All the presidential candidates and party officials agreed to the proposal to extend the time for voting considering inconvenience caused to the people with an unusually long ballot paper,” Mr Rathnayake said and added that the gazette notification in relation to this would be issued today.”

The ballot paper of the 2019 presidential election is two feet long to accommodate the 35 candidates contesting the election.

Postal voting will be held from October 31 to November 5.
