Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa has ordered the police to immediately arrest all those involved in vandalising street name boards displayed in Tamil language. He had ordered his office to put up the damaged boards without delay.

Several Tamil name boards have been damaged or removed in Panadura and Kerawalapitiya by unidentified persons following the presidential election.

Meanwhile, police said Panadura (South) had launched an investigation into an incident where a Tamil name board was removed in Panadura.

The police headquarters had directed senior police officers to take action to prevent such incidents that disturbed peace and instigated interfaith disharmony. Accordingly, police officers have been instructed to carry out mobile patrols to prevent such incidents. Furthermore, ASPs of police stations countrywide had been instructed to directly investigate complaints, arrest the culprits responsible and produce them in court.
