The final decision on the symbol under which the UNP led alliance would contest the general elections will be made by the party’s working committee tomorrow (18), a UNP MP said yesterday.

UNP MP Mujibur Rahman told a press conference yesterday that the final decision pertaining to the symbol will be
made on Tuesday.

“Two MPs Ranjith Madduma Bandara and Ravi Karunanayake had already mentioned that the alliance will contest under the swan symbol. Swan could be the symbol under which the alliance would contest the election”, they said.

“Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa will be the Prime ministerial candidate and therefore he would lead our campaign”, the MP added.

Meanwhile, MP Rahman urged the government to reduce fuel prices saying such a reduction could be possible as the price of a barrel of crude oil had reduced to dollars 51 today. He said a reduction would have been possible had the present government continued the price formula introduced by the previous regime.
