Two individuals were arrested last morning while they were transporting 50 kilograms of heroin in a jeep on the Southern Expressway (E01), Police Spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekera said, adding that the contraband had a street value of Rs.500 million.

He said the heroin haul concealed in two fertilizer bags was recovered when the Expressway Police checked a suspicious jeep that arrived from the Kaduwela entrance and attempted to exit from Athurugiriya.
The suspects were identified as Pelawatte Gamage Chaminda Dilruk (38) of Borella and Mangala Sisira Kumarasiri (38) of Udahamulla in Nugegoda.
