Two more suspects,wanted over Easter Sunday attacks, were arrested in Nawalapitiya yesterday morning, police said. \
The suspects were identified as Mohomed Iwuhaim Saadiq Abdul Haq and Mohomed Iwuhaim Shahid Abdul Haq. They were to be handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), police said.
Following the terror attacks on Easter Sunday, the CID released pictures of six suspects seeking public assistance to arrest them in connection with the attacks.
The police and the STF arrested a woman, Fathima Latheefa who was among the wanted persons, on Friday (26) at Muruthawela in Mawanella.
Mohomed Iwuhaim Saadiq Abdul Haq and Mohomed Iwuhaim Shahid Abdul Haq were yesterday arrested following a tip off which claimed that they were hiding at a shoe shop in Gampola.
The shop owner believed to be a relative of the suspects was also arrested by the police.
Following the arrest, the police and the army then searched the shop owner’s house and recovered several Army uniforms. They also recovered a bag suspected to be used for suicide bombing. Investigation revealed that the house had been used to conduct lectures of the Thawheed Jam’mat Organization.
During the raid, a motor car left without a owner had been taken into custody. Meanwhile, the police recovered a van at a house in Nawalapitiya which is believed to have been used to transport the wanted suspects to Gampola area from Anuradhapura. The owner of the house and the driver of the van were also taken into police custody.
