Two arrested over Negombo violence

Two individuals were taken into custody yesterday in connection with the incident that unfolded at Poruthota in Negombo last Sunday where two groups clashed following a road accident, police said. 

It was reported that a heated argument between two parties over an accident involving two motorcycles and a trishaw on the Poruthota  Road along the Negombo coastal stretch in Kochchikade on Sunday at 6.00 p.m. developed into the clash. 


The police confirmed that no sharp weapons like swords had been used in the clash. Police curfew had to be imposed within the Negombo Police Division from Sunday evening to 7.00 a.m. yesterday. 


Daily Mirror learnt that several shops and a house near the location had been damaged following the incident.
