Two accused indicted for attempted murder 20-year RI each and ordered to pay Rs.200,000 to victim

Two accused who stood indicted with cutting off an upper limb and a lower limb and causing several other injuries were found guilty of attempted murder and were sentenced to 20-year rigorous imprisonment each and ordered to pay Rs.200,000 to the victim. 

The accused Weliweriya Gamage Titus and Thenuwara Gamage Priyantha alias Anguru Priyantha had on June 05, 2009 assaulted with a Manna knife a resident of the area Anura Senevirathne alias Mahatun cutting off a hand and a leg..   


Another accused in the case Warnakulasuriya Patabendige Pethum had been acquitted at the very outset of the trial.   


Prosecution told Court that the accused had waylaid and assaulted with knives the victim who was collecting funds to release cattle from slaughter, separating a hand below the elbow and a leg below the knee.
