Trial-at-bar remands Ali Roshan and others

The Colombo High Court trial-at-bar yesterday remanded S.N. Roshan alias Ali Roshan and seven others till the final determination of the case in which they are charged with possession of five elephants during 2012-2015 without a valid licence.  

After they were served with indictments, Deputy Solicitor General Dileepa Peiris objected to the accused being released on bail.  


The trial-at-bar comprised judges Vikum Kaluarachchi, Dammika Ganepola and Adithya K. Patabandi.  


The eight accused were indicted by the AG on 33 counts under the Fauna and Flora Ordinance, Penal Code and the Public Property Act. The 33 counts included trafficking of  elephants, conspiracy to trafficking, unlawful possession of elephants and the retention of stolen public property. 

 
The other accused were H. Nishantha Dammika, K. Chandana Kumara, G. A. Sashika Chanuka, P. G. Jayalath, H. Priyangika Sanjeewani, Upali Padmasiri and R. Damith Chathuranga.
