The Prison Department has taken steps to transfer at least 30 high profile criminals detained at various prisons across the country including underworld gang leader Prabhath Madusanka alias ‘Barrel Sanka’ to Boossa high security prison.
Prison Spokesman Chandana Ekanayake said the Department has taken steps to increase the number of prison cells at the Boossa prison to 76.
He said earlier the Boossa prison has the facility to detain 46 inmates. However, the Prisons’ Department has taken steps to construct additional 30 prison cells.
Commissioner Ekanayake said that Tuan Anish Ramilan alias Roshan will also be transferred.
Accordingly, notorious underworld criminals, organised criminals and drug traffickers detained in other prisons would be transferred to Boossa.
He said high-tech monitoring equipment has been set up at the Boossa Prison to prevent any prisoner from using mobile phones to communicate with outsiders in addition to 24x7 CCTV system and STF security.
Currently, high profile criminals like Kanjipani Imran, Wele Suda, Kosgoda Tharaka and Podi Lassi are being detained at the Boossa prison.
