The Catholic Churches in the Archdiocese of Colombo will observe silence for five minutes during tomorrow’s Mass in memory of those who died during the Easter Sunday attacks, Head of the Social Relations Unit of the Church Fr. Jude Chrishantha said yesterday.

Fr. Chrishantha said the churches of the archdiocese will observe five minutes silence starting from 8.40 a.m.
for those who died in the attack.

In addition all devotees have been asked to be clad in black as a mark of protest over the report submitted by the Presidential Commission that probed the series of bomb blasts. The Church criticised the report saying that the real culprits of the acts of terrorism had not been identified.

“People will attend Sunday Mass on that day initially and then will come out of the church to recite a special prayer for victims of the Easter Sunday attack,” he added.  He said people should follow the health guidelines prescribed by the Government when carrying out the silent protest.   “This will be the beginning of a series of protests,” he added.  Meanwhile Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith had already asked the people to hoist black flags on April 21, 2021 if justice is not meted out to those who were affected by the attacks by then.
