Those without qualifications shouldn’t act on PCoI recommendations: Cardinal

• Says would seek international assistance if action not taken against those responsible 
• Government should publish the report soon

Those who don’t have even basic education shouldn’t be allowed to decide and act on the recommendations of the Presidential Commission of Inquiry (PCoI) on Easter Sunday attacks, Archbishop of Colombo, His Eminence Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith said over the weekend. 

Cardinal Ranjith who joined a protest staged by the Catholics of Katuwapitiya together with the clergy said it is the Attorney General who should decide and act on the recommendations made by the Presidential Commission. 
“Those who have not got through the ordinary level exam cannot be allowed to make such decisions,” the Cardinal said. 

“The government should publish the PCoI report soon. We are suspicious as to why the government is reluctant to do so. Leaders with a backbone should not be resultant but should act fast. The government pledged a transparent probe into that attack and that is why it was given a mandate. What is recommended in the Presidential Commission should be implemented to the fullest. We cannot agree with a move which is aimed at selecting some recommendations and working on them,” he added.
