Special police surveillance on public, school transport service from today

While continuing the mandatory quarantine formalities, the traffic policemen have been advised to conduct a special operation from today monitoring bus conductors and drivers of public transport facility and drivers and assistants of school vans and subject them to random Rapid Antigen Tests (RATs), Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said. 

He said a special traffic police operation will be in place to ascertain whether people are adhering to COVID-19 quarantine health guidelines. 


Accordingly, passenger and school transport services that exit the Western Province (WP) will be checked and will be subject to RATs from tomorrow, he said. All school and public transport facilities will be checked to ascertain whether they adhere to health guidelines, the Spokesman said. 


He said all school children should travel wearing face masks and must maintain social distancing. Moreover, he said 11 suspects have been arrested for not wearing face masks and failing to maintain social distancing during COVID-19 preventive operations carried out across the country, including WP during the past 24-hours.
