Members of seven families in Makura and Thalagama in Mirigama were quarantined when a remand prisoner of the area released on bail was tested COVID-19 positive. The individual who had been on remand in connection with a fraud in Colombo had returned to his village after he was released on bail.

He had visited his relatives, neighbours, public places and even attended a religious ceremony in a temple. Mirigama MOH Dr. Ruwan Pathirana said seven families who associated with him were quarantined and investigations initiated to identify others who associated with him. He said the individuals under quarantined would be PCR tested.

Dr. Pathirana said several others associated with the patient were at large, creating a serious threat to public health.
