An accused who stood indicted with drug peddling and possessing 382 grammes of heroin was found guilty and sentenced to death yesterday by Galle High Court Judge W.P.S. Nissanaka. The accused Sudath Nishantha Komangodage (51) was a resident of Kurunduwatta in Gonamulla.

He had been arrested in the early hours of the morning on May 15, 2001 by the Colombo Anti-Narcotic Bureau that carried out the raid on intelligence received from a private informant.

The High Court Judge held that the accused’s plea that the Police had fabricated a case against him was not admissible in the absence of evidence to prove that the Police had any ill-will with him to do so. The Judge held that the indictments had been established beyond reasonable doubt.   State Counsel Randima Fernando prosecuted.
