Leader of the House Lakshman Kiriella told Parliament yesterday that Sri  Lanka was diligently turning in its favour the UNHRC resolution that would be taken up in Geneva shortly.
He made this statement in response to a question raised by UPFA MP Dinesh Gunawardene regarding the resolution.

Mr. Gunawardene said arrangements were being made to bring in a resolution at UNHRC sessions though British Parliamentarian Lord Nesby claimed accusations levelled against Sri Lanka were false. “We would like to know as to what is going on in Geneva in the given circumstances,” Mr. Gunawardene said.

Meanwhile, Mr. Kiriella said Sri Lanka was able to defeat resolutions in the past three years and that it would do the same this year too.

“We are communicating with UNHRC officials and striving to turn the resolution in our favour. We have won the confidence of many countries. Trust and support us in this endeavour. I assure you that Sri  Lanka is safe as far as the international community is concerned. We were on the verge of facing sanctions,” he told the opposition.
