They called it an act of promotion of myths

The release of ‘Pirith pan’ into the rivers by some ministers seeking blessings to end the COVID-19 pandemic was criticised by the main opposition Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) which called it an act of promotion of myths.

SJB MP Manusha Nanayakkara at a press conference yesterday criticised  Health Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi who released ‘Pirith Pan’  (sacred water traditionally used by Buddhists to invoke blessings) to a river. He said a scientific approach is needed to confront the pandemic.

It was sad to see the Health Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi releasing water which they say ‘Wishwa Shakthi’ water instead of thinking of a scientific method to fight the pandemic.

One should not hold onto myths at this time where humans are called upon to think scientifically to get rid of the pandemic” Mr. Nanayakkara said.

Mr. Nanayakkara therefore claimed that the water released into the rivers was recommended by someone who promotes myths.

“It is better if Ms.Wanniarachchi resigns from this post,” he added.
