UNP Assistant Leader Ravi Karunanayake yesterday scoffed rumours that he was to cross over to the government and said those who spread false information without a proper understanding should focus on their errors first.

“We were only interested in building a national economy. However, those who spread false information should understand what we are really trying to do and should rectify their errors first,” he said.

Mr. Karunanayake said that the United National Party (UNP) will take stern action against some of its members who had played out people when providing relief to people during the lockdown period.

He said the party will take action against 21 members of which most are from local bodies. “We believe in the welfare of people, which is important where our party is concerned as it was the ideology of our founder member, the late Prime Minister D. S. Senanayake,” he said.

Welcoming the partial lifting of the lockdown, the UNP Assistant Leader said relaxing the lockdown should be done with care especially because there is a warning of a second wave of Covid-19 spread.

“Government should take into consideration the situation in South Korea and China which are experiencing a second wave,”
he said.
