Former Prime Minister and UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe yesterday called on higher ups in the government to come for a public debate on policies of building a post COVID-19 economy in Sri Lanka.

Speaking to journalists after participating in religious observances at Nalandarama temple in Nugegoda yesterday, Mr. Wickremesinghe said he would officially call higher ups in the government for a public debate on policies on building the country’s economy which has been battered by COVID-19. “Our party had already prepared policies to build up Sri Lanka’s economy which is battered by COVID- 19. Therefore we would like to have a public debate with the government higher ups” he said. “We have also decided not to talk of Buddhist monks and other religious leaders during the election time.

Therefore we will not drag religious leaders into politics this election but would only emphasize on economic policies and on rebuilding the nation’s economy during the post COVID-19 era. UNP assistant leader Ravi Karunanayake and UNP Colombo District candidates Sunethra Ranasinghe and Daya Gamage also participated in religious observances.
