Rainy spell expected to continue

The prevailing rainy weather will prevail in the coming days while showers exceeding 100 mm could be expected in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Southern provinces, The Met Department said yesterday. 

Meanwhile, the National Building Research Organization (NBRO) warned of landslides in five districts including the Seethawaka division in the Colombo district, Bulathsinhala and Palindanuwara divisions in the Kalutara District, Dehiowita division in the Kegalle District, Kuruwita and Eheliyagoda Divisions in the Ratnapura District and Elpitiya, Nagoda and Niyagama in the Galle District during the coming days.   


Heavy rains had been reported in several areas with the highest rainfall of 219 mm recorded from Danowita in the Galle District while Mihigahatanne in the Kalutara District recorded a fall of 117 mm, Parakaduwa 106 mm and Pasyala 100 mm in addition almost 70 mm in Colombo.   


However, there was no increase in water levels in any of the reservoirs in the country according to the 
Department of Irrigation.
