While extending their solidarity to the Port trade unions in their struggle against what they called ‘the selling of Eastern Container Terminal (ECT) of the Colombo port’, Railway Trade Union Alliance yesterday urged the government to withdraw its decision to hand over the ECT to India.

Railway Trade Union Alliance Co-Convener S.P. Vithanage said they would launch a campaign against the government’s move in all the work-sites of the Railway Department until the government withdraws its decision.
He said this while participating in a postcard protest held at the Railway Headquarters in Colombo yesterday. Postcards were sent by the participants asking the president not to sell off it to anyone.

Mr. Vithanage said it was against the mandate of the government to alienate any state asset since it pledged the people not to do so and even vowed to retake such assets privatised by the previous government.
