Qatar Police interrogate key suspect: CID

The CID yesterday informed the Colombo Fort Magistrate through a B-report that Qatari Police were grilling a key suspect of the terrorist network in Sri Lanka which had maintained direct relations with the ISIS.  

The CID informed the court that another suspect who was arrested by the Qatari Police two days after the Easter Sunday attack, had been extradited to Sri Lanka after being interrogated in detention for over three months.   
Accordingly, the CID said in its B-report that the suspect who is still detained in Qatar is Mohammed Anwar Mohammed Insaf.   


The extradited suspect was Samad Mohammed Riyaz, a resident of No: 35/35, Rahumaniya Mawatha, Mawanella.   


Samad Mohammed Riyaz has been extradited to Sri Lanka on July 16 and was arrested by the CID officials at the Bandaranaike International Airport, Katunayake. He is being interrogated by the Airport CID officials under detention order.   


The CID informed court that the need of an extensive investigation to determine whether the extradited suspect had amassed funds in illegal manner and funded terrorist activities. The CID said that they need to obtain the details of the accounts maintained at 19 banks and financial institutions by the suspect and two of his family members.   


Accordingly, the court order was issued to the Operations Manager-Headquarters of the 19 financial institutions to release bank account details of extradited Samad Mohammed Riyaz, Mohammed Niyaz Fathima Nishla and Mohammed Fawd Siththi Neeliraja to the CID.   


Apart from the account details, any details of funds received from foreigners, bonds, treasury bonds, safe and other details of the three individuals were ordered to be handed over to the CID.
