Provincial Councils and Local Government State Minister Sarath Weerasekara yesterday asked ministry officials to submit a progress review report as early as possible on the provincial council system.
He said the system had been in operation since 1989, and should be reviewed as to whether the system had delivered what was meant.
He said once the report was submitted, it would be referred to the Cabinet to decide whether to proceed with it or not. There are nine provincial councils in the country.
