Prison guard arrested with heroin at Borella

A prison guard attached to the Colombo Remand Prison was arrested with 94 grammes of heroin in Borella on Thursday night.  

Police said the Western Province (North) Crimes Division officers arrested the suspect following a tip-off.  The 49-year-old prison guard, a resident of Sirisara Uyana, Borella was to be produced in the Maligakanda Magistrate’s Court.  Meanwhile, an notorious criminal identified as Uragaha Chamil Priyanga alias “Kudu Suranga” had been arrested with 5 grammes of heroin at Thiranagama in Hikkaduwa.  


Police said the suspect was wanted over multiple criminal activities.  He was to be produced before the Galle Magistrate’s Court.  In another incident, the Dambulla Police recovered 500 grammes of heroin worth Rs. 5 million, hidden at a dried out canal at the Walekade Junction in Dambulla last morning.
