Pregnant mother tests positive for COVID -19 in Kottapitiya

A pregnant mother, a returnee from the Middle East, has tested positive for COVID -19 yesterday while in self-quarantine in Arachchikattuwa, Kottapitiya, Chilaw General Hospital Director K. P. Mallawarachchi told the Daily Mirror, the woman who had visited the Chilaw Hospital to seek treatment for fever, was diagnosed with COVID -19 symptoms.    

“She was then admitted to the COVID -19 Special Treatment Unit where she tested positive for the virus following a PCR test,” he said.   


He said she was sent to the Mulleriyawa Hospital as pregnant women diagnosed with COVID -19 receive specialised care at this hospital.   


“The woman was asked to self-quarantine at her residence after completing the initial quarantine period of 14 days at the Vavuniya quarantine centre upon her return from the Middle East,” he added.
