Police will view the CD, which contains the footage of underworld kingpin Makandure Madush’s father’s funeral, recovered from Kelum Indika Sampath, alias ‘Kewma’s house in Moratuwa on Monday, to identify whether any underworld gangsters or drug smugglers were present at the funeral, Police Spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekera said.

He said the CD was recovered along with 177 kgs of heroin worth over Rs.1,800 million, several firearms and a large stock of ammunition that were seized by the STF from an alleged safe house of Makandure Madush at Rawathawatta in Moratuwa.

SP Gunasekera said the heroin, firearms and ammunition were recovered from the house of ‘Kewma’, who is currently in remand in connection with the robbery of a diamond worth over Rs.5 billion. He was remanded at Mahara prison until March 22.

He said according to the investigation, Kawma who is a close friend of Makandure Madush, had organised the funeral of Madush’s father and reportedly sent a copy of the CD containing funeral visuals to Dubai where Madush resides.

Meanwhile, the spokesman said Kelum Indika Sampath, alias ‘Kewma’ had rented out a house at Rawathawatta by giving false identity to the owners of the house.
The Moratuwa Magistrate ordered the Mahara prison officers to produce Kelum Indika to an identification parade on March 19 on a request of Police Narcotics Bureau, SP
Gunasekera said.
