The President’s Office yesterday requested people not to invite President Gotabaya Rajapaksa for private functions such as weddings, saying his daily duties were mainly devoted to resolving the problems faced by the people.

In a statement, the Presidential Media Division said the President was keen to expedite development projects for the betterment of the people and to resolve issues faced by them at a grassroot level.

“As such please refrain from inviting the President for functions such as prize-givings, weddings and other parties since the President is not expecting to take part in these functions other than spending time in fulfilling national responsibilities,” the statement said.

It said many people invite the President to these functions, to be a part of a special day of their lives, due to the respect they have towards the President.

“The President appreciates the impression the people have of him. However, the President is determined to commit each hour he gets, when not engaged in official duties, for the betterment of the people,” the PMD said.
