A statement from the Prime Minister’s office said that the report which said Premier Wickremesinghe had contacted the Sri Lankan cricket stalwarts were false.

The Prime Minister’s office was referring to a report carried by a cricket website recently.

“We wish to inform that the article dated June 7, 2019, on CRICKETAGE is totally fabricated. The allegations that the Prime Minister’s office contacted Cricket Stalwarts are totally false and untrue.

“We further reiterate that the Prime Minister has not contacted the Minister of Sports Harin Fernando as stated in the article and has not given any direction in this regard to SLC. We reiterate that the news carried on CRICKETAGE has no substance and is baseless as there was no such communication from the Prime Minister’s office,” a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s office said.

“In one of the most decisive moves in the history of the game in the Island, the United National Party (UNP), who is in the Government, has decided to bring Sri Lanka Cricket back on track,” the said website reported.

It said the party had decided to do an evaluation of Sports Minister Harin Fernando.  “Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe’s office on Friday secretly inquired from some of the true and unbiased cricket fraternity stalwarts about the current status of the game,” the report said.
