Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa who issued a video message extending best wishes to Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Likeqiang and the people of China in view of the Chinese New Year, expressed hope that China would continue to support future development.

He said in his message that the long standing friendship and cooperation between Sri Lanka and China continue to grow stronger in these challenging times as we join efforts to fight the coronavirus pandemic. Sri Lankan people deeply appreciate the assistance provided by China.

“As the world prepares to vaccinate the global population, we appreciate President Xi’s commitment to make the Chinese vaccine a global public good, including his efforts to aid 53 developing countries. Sri Lanka is grateful for the first batch of 300,000 vaccine doses donated by China.

As a development partner, China has provided support to Sri Lanka for decades. As Sri Lanka prepares for the post-COVID economic recovery, we know China will continue to support our future development. We also look forward to welcoming more Chinese tourists to Sri Lanka as global travel returns to normalcy.
