PCoI extends deadline to Mar.19

The deadline to accept complaints into serious acts of fraud, corruption and abuse of power has been extended till March 19 from March 14.

President Maithripala Sirisena appointed a Presidential Commission of Inquiry to investigate and inquire into serious acts of fraud, corruption and abuse of power, State resources and privileges, which had taken place between January 15, 2015 and December 31, 2018.  


The PCoI said the March 14 deadline was extended to March 19 by PCoI head retired Supreme Court Judge A.H.M. Upali Abeyratne on the basis of a large number of complaints being received.  


It said it had received 741 complaints up to Monday.  


A spokesman said three more complaints were handed over to the Special Police Unit for  investigations.   


He said a complaint on a serious fraud alleged to have taken place during the tender procedure to procure tablet PCs for Advanced Level students in 2017 and an alleged fraud of more than Rs 28 million at the Sri Lankan Football Federation in 2017 were among the three complaints.
