Over 1,000 cases in a single day for the first time

Sri Lanka yesterday recorded over 1,000 COVID-19 cases in a single day since the first infected person was detected in the island in January last year.   

The number of cases reported yesterday was 1,096 and eight deaths was also reported.  


Sri Lanka saw the first person infected with coronavirus, a Chinese woman on January 27 last year and the first local COVID-19 patient was detected on March 11 last year.   The total COVID-19 cases reported from the country till yesterday was 103,487 and the total deaths reported is 655.
