One died and two others were seriously injured in a head on collision of a trishaw and a private bus at Dangolla on Kurunegala – Kuliyapitiya road last morning. The deceased and the injured were the passengers of the trishaw.
Investigations revealed that the private bus that attempted to overtake a mass of vehicles in a traffic jam had collided with the trishaw from the opposite direction. Passengers said the bus was running at excessive speed at the time of the accident.
The deceased was a 22-year-old young man from Ibbagamuwa area. The injured were admitted to the Narammala hospital and transferred in critical condition to Dambadeniya Base Hospital.
The driver of the bus was taken into custody by Narammala Police pending further investigations and legal action.
