No one must panic unnecessarily or frightened over the certain social media reports that the government is contemplating to monitor or censor the media, Cabinet spokesman, Mass Media Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said.

He said that the government had no intention whatsoever to put any pressure on the print, electronic or social media,

“However, those who pervert the freedom of media must be cautious because the media have come under much scrutiny and criticism in the recent past, in the public domain and have been used  for various nefarious activities,” Minister Rambukwella said.  “We have to admit that both the print media as well as the electronic media have been subjected to decadence ethically and in discipline.
