While condemning the media reports circulating on news websites, the Vehicle Importers Association of Sri Lanka (VIASL) and the Vehicle Importers Association of Lanka (VIAL) said there was no agreement with the Government on obtaining permission to import vehicles under a quota system.
VIASL President S.K. Gamage told the Daily Mirror that a news item is circulating these days claiming that the government and vehicle importers have reached an agreement to re-import vehicles under a specific quota. He said there was a meeting with President’s Secretary P.B. Jayasundera at the Presidential Secretariat yesterday but we did not discuss about such quota system to resume vehicle imports.
