Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka (CAASL) today said that they have suspended all flights from UK from this morning over fears of the new strain of coronavirus.
Speaking to the Daily Mirror, CAASL Chairman Upul Dharmadasa said the decision was taken to suspend all flights from the UK from 2.00 a.m today(23).
The decision has been taken after President Gotabaya Rajapaksa decided to suspend arrival of passengers from the United Kingdom due to a new strain of COVID – 19 currently spreading across UK.
It was taken at the daily meeting of COVID – 19 Prevention Committee held at the Presidential Secretariat yesterday (22) following a review of the new strain of the virus and its spread.
Passengers, who arrived in the island from the UK were to be accommodated at hotels after conducting PCR tests and will be quarantined for 14 days under the supervision of the health officials. They will be further subjected another 14 days of home quarantine.
The crew members of cargo flights inbound from London are also subjected to quarantine.
The new Corona virus strain spreading over 40 countries including the UK.
