The Sri Lanka Navy has temporarily withdrawn from several Covid -19 related operations.  The move comes after several Navy officers attached to the Welisara Navy camp tested positive for the coronavirus.

Navy spokesman Lieutenant Commander Isuru Suriyabandara told Daily Mirror that the Navy had been engaged in several activities related to the control of the Covid -19 pandemic.   However, a decision has now been taken to withdraw from some of those activities.  Suriyabandara said the Navy will continue to manage quarantine centres and disinfection programmes.   The Navy will withdraw from house to house testing for the virus in some areas.   Meanwhile, the Sri Lanka Ports Authority said that Navy officers deployed at the port are tested daily for the virus.
