The Military yesterday said a letter circulating on social media, warning of a fresh threat from the ISIS was fake and said no such internal memo had been released by the state intelligence.
Senior military sources told the Daily Mirror, that the public should not believe any internal memos being circulated on social media and if there was any such matter, it would be conveyed officially. “We assure you that our security is well maintained and troops are always on alert. We urge the public not to panic and not to believe these internal memos which are made by some people to create panic and disunity. Sri Lanka’s national sovereignty remains well guarded at all times,” military officials said.
The letter, under the heading ‘internal memo’ and shared under a state institution’s name, circulated on social media groups yesterday creating panic as it also bore the seal of a state institution.
It warned of an impending attack on an economic centre.The Daily Mirror learns that an investigation has been launched to nab those who created this fake report.
