Man nabbed with “liquor to be sold during curfew”

A 42-year-old man was arrested and a stock of liquor which was to be distributed for exorbitant prices during the curfew was seized by the Western  Province (South) Police Crimes Investigation Division during a raid on a two-storey house at Stanley Tilakaratne Mawatha in Nugegoda.  

Police said the suspect had sold a large stock of liquor to residents in Maharagama, Nugegoda, Boralesgamuwa, Kottawa and Dehiwala for black market prices during curfew hours. 


Investigations revealed that the suspect had sold liquor for Rs.3,500-Rs.6,000 per bottle. Police had carried out the raid with the help of a decoy on intelligence received by Sergeant Janaka Basnayake. 


Crimes Investigation Division OIC, Western  Province (South) IP Jayantha Perera, IP Hemantha Kumara, SIs Dinesh Kavishka and Rukshan Bandara, Sergeants 56951 Sunil, 56958 Prasanna, 38666 Basnayake and 40248 Prasanna and PCs 84762 Kumara and 83661 Shantha carried out the raid on the instructions of Crimes Investigation Division Director SP Lalith Abeysekara and DIG Kapila Katupitiya.
