A man who had impersonated as a member of the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) and demanded money from people in Wellawatte promising them to provide COVID-19 vaccines had assaulted SLPP member of Municipal Council Wehellage Sumithralatha yesterday.
Ms. Sumithralatha told Daily Mirror that the incident took place at Grama Sevaka office in Wellawatte. “I undertook a project to construct a staircase at Grama Sevaka office. When I visited the place yesterday, I found that this person had also come claiming that he is a member of CMC. We got into an argument and he assaulted me. I had to undergo some medical tests as well,” she said.
“There are various charges against this man. He had demanded money from people in Wellawatte wpromising that he will get COVID-19 vaccines. He has also constructed a hotel in Wellawatte beach in an unauthorised manner.
