Man arrested for trying to bribe OIC to bail out NTJ suspect

A man, who had attempted to bribe the Horowpathana Police OIC, to release a suspect (a Moulavi) of National Thowheed Jamaath (NTJ) from remanded custody, was arrested by Bribery Commission Officers yesterday.

Bribery Commission Director (Investigation) SSP Priyantha Chandrasiri said the suspect was arrested while attempting to bribe with a sum of Rs.250,000 to the OIC at his office.   
On April 28, the Horowpathana Police had arrested a suspect allegedly aiding an extremist terrorist involved in recent terror attack. After detaining the suspect for three days, he was produced in the Kebithigollewa Magistrate’s Court on May 1 and remanded till May 14.   


SSP Priyantha Chandrasiri said a relative of the remanded suspect had promised to pay the OIC Rs. 500,000 for not raising objections to bail out the suspect.   


The suspect was caught red handed while handing over an advance of Rs.250,000.   


The suspect was identified as Mohamed Ziffan, a resident of Horowpathana.
